Welcome to the Watling & Bates website. We come from Unumgar NSW, which is 40 km NW of Kyogle. Legend has it that the town of Kyogle is named after the bush or scrub turkey, which is odd as you don't see many around town. Unumgar is Yowie territory. They don't make as much mess of the garden, but they can certainly frighten the horses.
Welcome to the Watling & Bates website. We are a musical duo from Unumgar in Northern New South Wales, Australia. We write songs about small country towns, Australian history, and stories of love and hope.
OLD TIMES - VIDEO RELEASE
'Old Times' is the second video release from our Small Town Tales album, filmed 'live' with at Valiant Music.
THE ROOSTER HAS LANDED
Photos and video from our Small Town Tales album launch at the Eden Creek Hall 4th March 2018. Our exhibition curator Rebecca Tapscott was awarded Best Picture of a Chicken by popular vote, Jean and Graham Warburton (Couple No.1) won Best Waltzing Couple, and Adam and Lindee-Anne Flack (Couple No.2) were the slickest and snappiest dressers. Many thanks to our waltz judges Angela Dickson (Griffith University), Susanna Freymark (Editor, Richmond River Express Examiner), and Councillor Hayden Doolan (Kyogle Council). Grateful thanks to the Committee of the Eden Creek Community Hall for keeping this wonderful old hall full of life!
