CIDERVILLE is the latest radio single from Watling & Bates. It tells of a place to rest and gather strength during turbulent times. An invisible crossroad, far from the highway, where no one finds you unless you want to be found.
Watling backs her impassioned vocal with jangling country guitar, fiddle, and banjo. Producer Thor Phillips pits desolation against redemption on the steel of his Dobro, and John Willsteed (GoBetweens, Disgraceland, Halfway) makes an artful guest appearance on bass. Bates appears in cameo, a sparkling flourish at the most perfect moment.
CIDERVILLE is a track from the 2018 Small Town Tales album, recorded and produced by Thor Phillips. It was released to radio by CRS Publicity on CRS DD184 and can also be accessed by community radio through Amrap's AirIt.
The song was written in 1993, originally featuring on Disgraceland's rare and seminal Thundering Skies Of Disgraceland album in 1998. For the 2018 Small Town Tales album, Thor Phillips' has re-imagined CIDERVILLE with a delicate acoustic poignancy, both vulnerable and intense.
