Greetings from Unumgar!

we are delighted to announce that our new single Alice heads out to radio and streaming on Tuesday 14 May!

Alice

Alice is a highway love song, written by Geoffrey Bates, and inspired by his many years of driving trucks on the Australian highways.

The song's hero Alice is free-spirited, well-intentioned, and doesn’t always make the best choices. Her truck-driving friend cares deeply from a distance, nursing a secret hope that they will find each other again. They move independently on parallel highways, headed toward a future in which their paths may one day intersect.

Geoffrey Bates sings lead as the narrator, with featured artist Thor Phillips on keyboards, bass, and soaring guitars. Kym Watling plays harmonica and sings backup, while Marcus Schintler masterfully completes the work on  drums.

Production notes

Thor Phillips played a huge role in this production, tracking his guitars, bass, and keyboards at his Ridgeline Studio in Horse Station Creek NSW, and recording Marcus Schintler's drums at Comrade Rock Studio in Kyogle, NSW. Vocals were recorded by Geoffrey Bates at our Unumgar Studios.

Alice was produced by Geoffrey Bates, with final mix and engineering by Scott French of Lovestreet Studios, Currumbin Qld and mastering by Paul Blakey of 12th & Vine Post, Broadbeach, Qld.

The cover photograph and design by Kym Watling features a photographic self-portrait from a time when Watling & Bates were on their own parallel paths and yet to meet.
